What Is an Immigration Psychological Evaluation?

At ACM, LLC, we provide immigration mental health evaluations that are thorough, evidence-based assessment tailored to the specific requirements of your case. We take time to understand your personal history, experiences, and current circumstances through an in-depth clinical interview, a review of relevant background information, and, when appropriate, standardized assessments. Most evaluations take about two hours, with additional time dedicated to preparing a professional, detailed report that accurately reflects your situation.

Our evaluations are designed to meet USCIS evidentiary standards, ensuring they are thorough, credible, and professionally prepared for submission. Below are the key types of evaluations we offer:

  • VAWA Self-Petitioner Evaluations: These evaluations are for individuals applying under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which allows certain spouses, children, and parents of U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents to self-petition for lawful status without relying on the abuser. Our assessments focus on documenting the psychological and emotional effects of abuse, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and the impact on self-esteem, safety, and daily functioning. The evaluation provides USCIS with a clear picture of how the abuse has affected the applicant’s life and overall well-being.

  • U-Visa Evaluations: Designed for victims of qualifying crimes who have experienced substantial physical or psychological harm and are assisting law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of the criminal activity (such as abduction, blackmail, murder, stalking). Our evaluations document the emotional, psychological, and functional impact of the crime and the applicant's cooperation with law enforcement.

  • T-Visa Applicants: For survivors of human trafficking (including sex and labor trafficking), cooperating with law enforcement and applying for a T-Visa may help provide temporary legal status, work authorization, and a pathway to lawful permanent residence for the survivor and their eligible family members. We provide thorough evaluations that document the psychological and emotional consequences of trafficking. These assessments may include trauma-related symptoms, disruptions to daily functioning, and long-term psychological impact. Each T-Visa evaluation is written with care to meet USCIS evidentiary standards and to provide strong, credible support for your immigration case.

  • Extreme Hardship Waiver Evaluations (I-601/I-601A): These evaluations are conducted for individuals requesting a waiver of certain grounds of inadmissibility by demonstrating that a qualifying relative—typically a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse or parent—would experience extreme and unusual hardship if the applicant were deported or required to leave the United States. Our assessments carefully document the emotional, psychological, financial, medical, and social consequences that separation or relocation would create for the qualifying relative. The evaluation provides USCIS with a comprehensive picture of how removal would significantly disrupt the family’s well-being and stability.
