Are you feeling caught up in intense emotions and nothing seems to work?
Maybe you’re struggling to maintain healthy relationships and can’t understand why they are so difficult at times.
Are you searching for more peace and confidence in your life?
Life can feel overwhelming at times, especially when faced with emotional ups and downs, interpersonal conflicts, or the weight of daily stress. The good news is, you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, know that change is possible!
Our 12 Week Virtual Adult DBT Skills Group is designed to empower you with tools and techniques to help you take control of your emotions, reduce stress and perfectionism, connect with others effectively, and face life with confidence and hope.
What is DBT, and How Can It Help You?
DBT is a proven, evidence-based therapy that was originally developed by Marsha Linehan, PhD to help individuals who were struggling with intense emotions and self-destructive behaviors. Over the years, it has evolved and research has found DBT as an effective treatment for a wide range of challenges, including emotional regulation difficulties, interpersonal struggles, and stress management. The heart of DBT lies in its balanced approach: teaching acceptance of where you are right now while equipping you with actionable skills to create meaningful change.
DBT emphasizes four core areas of growth.
1. Mindfulness - Building Awareness and Presence
Mindfulness is the foundation of DBT. It teaches you to be present in the moment without judgment, helping you become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Mindfulness skills can:
Reduce stress and anxiety.
Help you respond thoughtfully, rather than react impulsively.
Increase your overall sense of peace and clarity.
For instance, if you’ve been struggling with perfectionism, mindfulness can help you notice self-critical thoughts without getting stuck in them. Instead of being consumed by the pressure to “get it right,” mindfulness teaches you to return to the present moment with openness and self-compassion. Over time, this shift can reduce stress, increase flexibility, and allow you to approach tasks with greater balance and ease.
2. Distress Tolerance - Managing Crisis Moments
Life is full of challenges, and distress tolerance skills teach you how to survive and cope during difficult times. These skills focus on managing emotions effectively, even in the face of overwhelming stress.
The goal of Distress Tolerance is to help you navigate crises without making the situation worse.
Maybe you’re having a hard time facing the grief of losing someone you love. In those moments, emotions can feel unbearable, and it may be tempting to withdraw, shut down, or seek unhealthy ways to numb the pain. Distress Tolerance skills can help you ride out the wave of pain, honor your feelings, and move through loss without adding further suffering.
3. Emotion Regulation - Gaining Balance & Control
Emotions are a natural part of life, but they can sometimes feel like they’re in control. This module helps you understand your emotions, reduce vulnerability to emotional extremes, and create a sense of balance
The goal of Emotion Regulation is to help you manage emotions effectively, reducing reactivity and impulsivity.
If it seems like anger or irritability has been taking over lately, Emotion Regulation skills can provide you options to respond to anger in healthier ways, reducing conflict and improving relationships.
4. Interpersonal Effectiveness - Strengthening Relationships
Healthy relationships are essential for a fulfilling life. This module teaches you how to communicate effectively, set boundaries, and maintain meaningful connections.
The goal of Interpersonal Effectiveness is to create stronger, healthier, and more rewarding relationships.
If you’ve experienced interpersonal challenges due to intense emotions or past conflicts, these skills can help you rebuild trust and navigate relationships with confidence and compassion.
